I have been thinking ๐ญ what makes us 'like' a movie or How does a movie become our "favorite" movie?
There could be N number of factors. Let's discover it through analysing my favorite movies and why do I like is so much.
There are so many Movies on IMDB that have got 8+ ratings. Can I call a movie with highest rating to be my favorite movie? ๐ No, certainly not. I have deviced a criteria to decide on my favorite movie. You can use this criteria as well to decide on your favorite movie. Criteria is simple. Any movie that compels me to watch it repeatedly becomes my favorite movie.
What compels me to watch a movie repeatedly? The story line, Songs, background score, my confirmation bias and relatability of the movie with my current situation.
Before we begin, let me tell you the kind of movie I enjoy watching.
I like the movies that makes a social impact, lives deep impression on mind, forces me to think about it for days and movies that have real life practical implications.
I however dislike the movies with irrational and illogical action. Where hero sends all bad character flying with one punch.
I also avoid watching intoxicating love stories, for they mess with mind and makes you crave for love, even when you don't need it.
Disclaimer : I avoid watching them, doesn't mean, I hate them. In fact I've been SRK fan for a very long time.
Let's begin
First and second on the list ๐ is Salman khan's movie! Surprised it's not SRK? Shahruk is 3rd on the list. Kangna's movie on 4th, 5th is Imran Khan. Wanna take a guess before scrolling down? See if you could atleast guess one of them.
Sultan
I watch this movie every time I feel low. Songs such as Rise of Sultan, Jag Ghoomeya and Sachi muchi keeps me motivated.
So does the Dailogues "Asli pehalwan ki pehchaan akhade mein nahi, zindagi mein hove hai ... taki jab zindagi tumhe patke toh tum phir khade ho , "Koi tumhe tab tak nahi hara sakta ... jab tak tum khud se na haar jao" and my favorite "Izzat aur guroor mein dhaage bhar ka farak hota hai Sultan". The last Dailogue explains the Subtle difference between Respect and Pride. This one is permanently fixed in my mind. Keeps me humble. Shoos away arrogance in me. There is one more Dailogue that is very impactful "Sapne dekhna achchi baat hai ... par kahi baar unke peeche daudte daudte na apne peeche choot jaate hai".
Bajarangi Bhaijan
This movie has so many lessons to take away that separate blog can be written on just this topic. This movie is an emotional roller coaster. Had me in tears more than ones.
The best thing about the movie is how it deals with sensitive issues so innocently. Issues like vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, India ๐ฎ๐ณ and Pakistan ๐ต๐ฐ Cricket match is tackled humorously. People of India ๐ฎ๐ณ and Pakistan ๐ต๐ฐ are so different yet so similar. They do not hate each other rather it is authorities that exploit them for political gains. Corruption persist on both sides so does Goodness. Honest and Truth help Pawan in a good way. Lastly, Humanity above religion.
Rab ne Bana Di Jodi
On the face of it, it's a pretty ordinary larger than life bollywood story.
I agree it's laughable that a women couldn't recognize her husband pranking her with double role only because one version doesn't have a moutache. However there are many hidden messages, more I watch it, the more meaningful it becomes. The movie is a fight between ego and alter ego. The dilemma of choosing one over other. In the movie I felt Taani's pain, I felt Suri's pain too. It is one of the rare movies that acknowledges the fact that sometimes the test of love is not holding on, but letting go.
Queen ๐
This is the story of Transformation.
How Rani's character grows stronger as the movie progress is commendable. The story is simple yet realistic and relatable. This movie pushed me to explore new places without being afraid. Make friends talk to people, take charge of my life and be responsible. Respect all women. Don't judge them for there looks. All of them are beautiful ๐งก. Any girl is capable of being transformed. I liked is so much that I watched it 3 times in theater.
Delhi Belli
This was probably the first and only bollywood movie that I watched in English in theater. Those days my English wasn't good. Yet, I understood it so well. It's an adult movie, not made for everyone. I learnt so many English slangs from the movie. The movie sets a benchmark for me to learn English. The movie was laughter mania.
Never have I laughed so much watching a movie. Not just me, The so called disciplined audience of multiplex was laughing the their ass off.
Nice...๐
